Creating Windows Users and Microsoft 365 Accounts

  1. Remote into BSRG-SRV1 using RDP

  1. Determine what club/property the user will need to be created for.  Find the respective folder in AD. For example: BSRG>Schaffer’s Mill

  1. Find a user within the property folder that most closely matches job title to the user you will be creating and copy that user. (right click to copy)

  1. Fill out the required information for the new user.

  1. Once created, open the newly created user account in AD by double clicking and fill out the section for their email.  (first initial . Lastname is the general naming convention) Make sure the email matches the respective property.

  1. If this step is not performed, or not performed correctly, the 365 email won’t sync correctly.

  1. Set the default password for the user and make sure the “user must reset password upon login” is checked

  1. Either wait 30 minutes or RDP into BSRG-SRV2 to sync AD to Office365 via powershell command (Start-ADSyncSyncCycle -PolicyType Delta)

  1. Right click and paste command into a powershell window running as administrator

  1. Log into the admin portal for Microsoft on your personal computer(admin.microsoft.com)

  1. Search for the user you just created. (via email address they should be under)

  1. Find the user and create a 365 account for them.

  1.  Assign the account a license

  1. Typically it’s the Plan 1 license and then Office 365 Business Standard

  1.  Once account is created, log into multi-factor authentication

  1.  Find the user(s) created and enable multi-factor authentication for them

  1. NOTE: Do not force enable multi-factor for all users as users log into printers/scanners which do not support MFA

  1.  Once MFA has been enabled, reply to the helpdesk ticket (https://bluestargolf.freshdesk.com/ ) or email and send:

  1. The username

  1. The email address

  1. Their default password

  1. A note stating: The user must log into a desktop computer to start, set up MFA, and then can log into microsoft.office365.com to complete the set up.
